There is an assumption that as long as we work hard and live decently enough, or meet the right people, that we will eventually “find happiness” and a purpose in life.
Nothing could be further from the truth, as this stance is diametrically at odds with the way the universe works.
Happiness, contentment, fulfillment, all of these things must be cultivated from within. There is no world in which these things just magically fall from the sky and into our laps, although this is the prevailing mainstream view.
To create is divine. This is our natural state of being and the point of reference we should keep if we want to live purposefully.
Let’s dig further into this topic and see how this information can be applied in order to enhance our lives.
We Are Creators
In every sense of the word, we are creators.
This doesn’t simply apply to what we build with our hands, but the ideas we bring into the world, the feelings we cultivate, and the very purpose with which we align ourselves to.
Everything is in our court. The passive way of viewing life, where things just happen to us and if we are lucky we will “find” what we are looking for, has no connection to reality. Life isn’t meant to be passive - and if you live this way, you will continuously pay for it.
Our jobs here, if you will, are two-fold.
To create, and to experience the creation around us.
The “experience” part of the equation is not a passive activity. This is the part of life that involves absorbing information and energy, indulging the senses, evolving.
The creation aspect is our personal stake in the game, what we bring forth into the world that contributes to the evolution of the collective.
Very often, we assume that the creation portion is optional and that the experience part just happens to us. That we have no direct part to play in what we experience.
This view essentially robs us of our innate spiritual power and position. We are creators. It’s why we are here to begin with, to create.
It is through creation that we derive purpose and meaning. Without the “creation” aspect of life, the prospect of “life” loses a lot of its meaning. Think about it.
What really is life is you separate it from our ability to bring ideas into the world and make them manifest?
Energy, Emotion, and Mindset
To truly understand the relationship between happiness, inner peace, and the act of creation, we have to look at the nature of energy and the mind.
The idea that happiness can be “found” is a misconception derived from the mainstream view of emotion in general. To the average person, emotions are fleeting “feelings” that arise from what we experience.
In reality, emotions are the byproduct of our current state of being, which is derived from our overall mindset.
Emotions are purely subjective in this sense, whereas energy is not.
A given circumstance always has the same energy signature. It is either good, or bad. Positive or negative. However our mental state determines how we interpret and synthesize this energy.
An unhealthy mind can take a positive situation and view it negatively. This mindset then produces an energy state that “feels” bad. The result is, the person interprets the event as being negative, and to them, it truly is negative. Even though in reality it is not.
This shows the power of the mind and why it is so important to cultivate a healthy mindset. A toxic mentality can turn everyday life into a hellscape, because everything gets viewed through these lenses of low vibrational thought.
How this plays into our personal fulfillment is important. First of all, the “feeling” of living our one’s purpose is always going to be a reflection of our mindset. If you have a low vibration mindset full of negative thoughts, it doesn’t matter how hard you work or how much opportunity falls into your lap. You will feel unfulfilled, lost, and empty.
This is why some people work very hard yet still complain about being “unfulfilled.”
There is no reality where someone who is aligned with positive energy can feel unfulfilled, because the feeling of fulfillment is a byproduct of living in positive alignment.
Action and energy produced from a healthy mindset is what naturally creates happiness and inner peace. It is a natural state of being that arises from thinking and doing the right thing.
But what exactly is the “right thing” in this sense? What kinds of actions do you have to take in order to better move in a direction that produces happiness?
This is where the creation aspect of it comes into play.
Creation comes in many forms. You can build a business, a family, or a life that helps produce happiness in others. You can create art, or products that benefit others. The ways in which you can “create” are nearly limitless.
Creation is just another word for generation or cultivation. Bringing forth into the world. Manifestation.
As long as you are actively manifesting or “bringing forth” something positive, you are fulfilling the act of creation and therefore will “feel” fulfilled, because that feeling is merely a byproduct of being a creator.
A Closer Look at Creation
You are either living life or letting life live you.
By that I mean, you are either in control of your path of manifestation, or allowing whatever energies you come across and mixed mental states you have to dictate your lived experiences.
The passive lifestyle of non-directional manifestation will rarely produce feelings of happiness and fulfillment. Positive emotions will feel very fleeting, because the circumstances necessary for their cultivation will not always be present.
Here is what gives rise to the idea that emotions cannot be controlled, that they are largely just “reactions” that appear when certain things happen to us.
This ignores two fundamental aspects of reality:
That we, through our thoughts and energy, are literally co-creating the world around us at every moment.
That emotions are merely a psychospiritual feedback system for us, and us alone. They are meant to be our guideposts that tell us whether we are moving in the right direction with our actions or not.
When we experience feelings of being adrift and purposeless, the “feedback system” is working correctly. It’s not something to wallow in and identify with (which is sadly what most people do with negative emotions), but instead it is supposed to be a wakeup call that our thoughts need adjusting.
Life is about creating and building. This is how we provide value into the universe and is part of what determines our karma.
How we are called to do this differs depending on many things, including our past karma and current choices.1 When we ignore this calling, the result is a feeling of unfulfillment and in general a life that lacks direction and purpose.
The misconception with purpose is that many assume you have to think long and hard on the subject, then “find” your purpose. This is incorrect.
A better approach would be to just release attachment to any idea as to what purpose is supposed to feel like, stop looking for it, and then dive head long into what you love to do.
If you are not yet at the stage where you know what you love to do, that’s OK. There is a baseline we all share, where we can bring good things into the world and work on our selves at the same time. Meaningful labor.
Volunteer someplace where you will meet the following criteria:
Around good people who are working toward some collective effort that will benefit others.
Involves at least some manual labor, the more repetitive and physically demanding, the better.
The work is clearly an act of service. By performing the work, you are directly helping someone else acomplish something important.
Forget about any kind of monetary reimbursement. The point of this kind of exercise is to chip away at the ego, produce positive energy, and help us develop physical skills.
One thing I noticed about my own development, the second I embraced the idea of work as a mindfulness practice and acted with gratitude in my heart toward those I was working for, it dramatically improved my sense of direction in life.
You certainly don’t have to volunteer somewhere in order to get this effect. Throwing your Self into your 9-to-5 with a mindset of gratitude may produce similar results. You can also take up a work out routine or martial arts. The point is, you want to work your body, which in turn will help clear your mind. When performed with gratitude, such “work” has a way of helping us feel grounded and at peace.
The reason for this is, while the work itself may not completely fall under what we might consider as our passion or life’s purpose, it is still an act of creation and is creating positive energy.
This is technically all that is needed to feel incredibly fulfilled.
I have seen this many times. The typical “lost at sea” individual who has had a dozen different jobs, is constantly anxious and depressed, and who feels as though they are living without a purpose. All it takes to shift their mindset and help them discover their purpose is down to earth work.
Volunteering at a shelter or taking part in some cause, adopting a martial art, etc. These kinds of practices help clean out the negative thinking patterns while allowing for a sense of acomplishment to arise.
This doesn’t happen in many “careers” because much of what passes for “work” these days doesn’t actually break down the ego, it amplifies it.
People sitting at a desk all day doing incredibly easy and monotonous “work” with fancy titles and huge salaries. These things don’t often lead to fulfillment, because they have a way of boosting the ego and nothing more.
I have found that corporate jobs pair really well with hobbies like gardening or wood-working. There is a good balance here.
Likewise, if you are already fulfilled and well along your Path, you will not incur any negative feelings through an empty corporate job and can use such positions to your advantage.
The key is, if you are already currently unfulfilled, don’t assume that the answer lies in getting some kind of normie job or just making money for the sake of it. Your purpose may not even involve a certain profession.
Understanding the feedback you get through your emotions and then reacting to those emotions in a healthy way is what will help you discover your purpose and live the life of a creator.
Living as a Creator
We’re not here just to be side-characters in someone else’s life story.
If you feel as though you are better off sitting in the background and just hoping for things to work in your favor, this is your ego talking. You are still too deep in your own personally constructed matrix prison to see that by taking such an outwardly “easy” road, you are actually paving the way for incredible amounts of disappointment and depression.
Our base nature is the creator role. We are meant to be exploring, conjuring ideas, bringing forth beautiful things into the world. In whatever form, it doesn’t matter.
Look inward and ask your Self how you can make the world around you better. What can you conjure that will strengthen the collective? How can you bring joy to others, or help them in some way?
There is always a Pathway forward.
Even for those of us that realize a quiet life of personal development is fulfilling, there is still a creation aspect. Remember, you can create for your Self as well. This is perfectly acceptable.
For the first few years of my Path, I only created for myself. All of my ideas, my writings, my thoughts, were primarily for personal enrichment.
I believe many would benefit from such a Path. When was the last time you sat down alone and simply conjured positive and interesting ideas? Ways to better your Self?
You are a creator. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking happiness and fulfillment will suddenly appear for you. As a creator, it is on you to manifest these things.
While it depends on our personal energy makeup, our preferred methods of creation may differ between the genders. In general, masculine energy prefers to bring forth ideas into the physical realm that will enrich others and generate wealth in some form. Feminine energy on the other hand tends to want to cultivate conditions, which may involve more creative pursuits, homemaking, gardening, home decoration, fashion, and the like. Since most of us are working with a blend of these energies, many acts of creation involve both of these kinds of energies.
