I often write about concepts like the law of attraction and manifestation, because I’m a strong proponent of self-mastery and making life what you want it to be.
While we are all certainly capable of forging our own Paths through life, there are other elements at work around us that often determine the course of events, and they aren’t always within our direct control.
This “divine timing,” as it’s often referred to, has a tendency to strike when we least expect it. Inexplicable synchronicity, random roadblocks that seemingly fall out of the sky, lessons in humility when we need them most, and the occasional instance of cosmic comedic relief.
Here I will explore this concept further, as I believe understanding divine timing is critical for greater self-awareness and manifestation ability.
Rivers of Karma
Despite how things may appear in the physical, nothing is random. Everything has an origin, and energy moves according to very specific universal laws.1
Why certain things happen to us is not a mystery, as every effect has a cause. Where it gets complicated is that the majority of events we experience are not merely the result of a single “cause,” but a great multitude of them, having varying degrees of importance and spanning hundreds and even thousands of years.
Our immediate sphere of experience is heavily governed on the physical by our day to day physical choices. Naturally, our choices are determined by our mindset which creates a certain frequency, so you can say that our local sphere of influence is largely a product of our current thought quality.
However, every choice that is made ripples out into the universe. When we make a choice under the influence of strong emotions, be them positive or negative, it creates a lot of energy that may take a while to process or come into being. Cumulative choices of a similar nature can create a staggered karmic effect.
The classic scenario of someone’s “past coming back to haunt them” is an example of this phenomenon in motion.
Due to the Hermetic Principle of Rhythm, energy seems to process at a balanced natural rate unless moved upon by some other kind of intent or strong polarity. It can take years, even lifetimes, to “process” the full weight of a single choice, because the energy behind the choice lingers.
One aspect of divine timing seems to be that once we are about to reach a certain frequency, the remaining energy of a past choice manifests all at once in order to prompt us with a choice to either process that energy or succumb to it.
Another way in which energy manifests out of nowhere is the domino effect, where good or bad things seem to happen in waves or clusters. This occurs most commonly when we form a new strong attachment or release a strong attachment.
We’re not only dealing with the weight of our own collective choices, but the energy of others. This factor differs depending on how many people you allow into your immediate sphere of influence, as well as how many people possess intimate knowledge pertaining to you, sometimes referred to as “occult understanding.”
The fewer people you allow into your local energy matrix, and the fewer people that know anything intimate about you in general, the more control you have over your own life, by definition.
As you open up to more people, your energy (and therefore life direction) will get pulled around, unless you have a very strong aura, a strong force of will. Traditionally, those who garner an understanding of energy and the way it moves seek to limit how many people know them on a personal level.2
The Hand of God
While we do have to answer for our choices, life is not so simple. There are more than enough testimonies throughout history to point to inexplicable moments where it seems the odds have stacked against us yet we come out unscathed.
Things do have a tendency of working out for those who have faith and who possess at least a certain level of self-awareness. This sort of cosmic luck, while not the product of an actual divine being picking and choosing when to favor someone in the literal sense, is a very real spiritual phenomenon that can be cultivated with a certain lifestyle.
It is well known that truly spiritual people are extremely lucky. I have covered this subject before, and it meshes with the concept of divine timing. After all, this entire system of choice, energy, and karma is spiritual, it is the mind and heart of God at play (in whatever sense you want to consider it).
When God intercedes in our lives, we are experiencing a synchronicity. Some part of our being, having a certain vibration or nature, will quite literally block us from experiencing certain negative events because said events may be too far away from the frequency at which we are currently aligned.
This is just one example, but shows, from a metaphysical point of view, how living a Godly life can potentially lead to moments where “God” appears to intercede on our behalf. The spiritual are lucky because they plant the seeds of their own luck with good deeds, positivity, and gratitude.
Keep in mind that all physical circumstances possess a certain frequency. Even if it appears on the surface that we may be heading straight toward a terrible event, those who possess a certain frequency of energy cannot actually experience said event. The energy does not match, and therefore the experience can never materialize.
Thus many spiritually minded individuals harbor the belief that God is looking out for them and that they are blessed. This is a primitive way of understanding the esoteric concept of spiritual armor. The higher your frequency, the more that the “hand of God” will intercede on your behalf.
This of course is not a “get out of jail free card,” as our choices ultimately dictate what we can expect in terms of spiritual blessings. This phenomenon mostly applies to outside energy and its ability to affect us as we walk in this world.
Destiny vs Fate
Destiny and fate are important concepts connected to the idea of divine timing.
While the two are largely inter-exchangeable, there is somewhat of a nuance that is worth considering.
Destiny is the larger framework. Many experts on the subject of energy and karma view destiny as being mostly immutable.
Think of destiny as the game board. Depending on our star line and the long history of our choices, we each play on a game board that has its own unique qualities. These game boards possess certain overarching parameters that one might consider to be the “rules of the game.”
These game board parameters include things like spiritual goals, astral locality, rate of spiritual evolution, cone of influence (how wide our individual consciousness can effect local reality), and so on. Let’s use a chess board as an example.
In the standard game of chess as we know and accept it, a given pawn can only move in certain ways and always has the potential to transform into another, stronger piece if it reaches the other side. This is its destiny.
Whether or not it reaches the other side is another story entirely. Its fate is decided by the choices made on its behalf.
In the same way, we each have a destiny, a framework of energy loosely defined by our current astral locality, the nature and origin of our energy, and the general trajectory of our soul. Within this framework, a myriad of possibilities exist that are open to us.
Fate can often feel predetermined, but it is not. Our fate can always be shifted by making certain choices and possessing a certain mindset, which then transposes onto the physical world.
However, where fate becomes almost impossible to avoid is when a certain number of choices stack up against the individual. To use chess as an example again, a pawn may always have the theoretical potential to reach the other side of the board, but after a series of poor decisions, those chances may become severely reduced.
Thus any of us, despite having enormous potential as laid out by our destinies, can come up against incredible hurdles that keep us from fulfilling our spiritual calling. These hurdles are mostly caused by our own choices. Much like in chess, where an adept player can plan ahead and advance almost any pawn across the board granted the opposition is not as adept, we too have the ability to advance across the board in a similar fashion. Our choices make or break us in this regard.
When it comes to matters of fate and destiny, divine timing can also play a role.
Let’s look at fate first.
We have all experienced those uncanny moments where it looks like our backs are against the wall and that there is no solution to our current situation. And then like magic, “everything works out.”
This is another example of divine timing and how energy works. It is in moments of extremely limited choice when we must select a future that meets a certain set of parameters in order to keep us in line with our destiny. This framework keeps us on “spiritual rails” so to speak, because it is impossible to separate our energy and the energy of the Path we are on. These two things are one and the same.
It is in these extreme moments when our consciousness will simply “handle it” in some way, making a choice or putting forth the energy necessary in order to continue the game. It’s literally that simple.
The less aware look at such situations as the “hand of God,” as mentioned above. God in the anthropomorphic sense sees us in duress and intercedes on our behalf. This imagery is helpful for some, and even in the esoteric sense it is not far from the reality. As it is the spark of consciousness within us, that part of us which is tied to the divine, that is calling the shots here and shifting our fate so that it aligns with our destiny.
In some cases, it can appear as though another person intercedes on our behalf and changes our fate. It is easy to make this assumption when you look at things purely from the physical, however it goes beyond the technical realm of possibility for another person to directly change the fate of another without their concent and participation.
When such things occur what is actually happening is more of the same divine intervention phenomena. The individual in this case has connected with other conscious end-points on the game board and much like a rook or knight may come to the aid of a pawn in an hour of need, so to will our friends and family (or even perfect strangers) come to our aid because their fates align with ours, and they are merely answering the call along with us.
Navigating Divine Timing
I’ve mostly been focusing on situations where it appears as though we are heading toward a negative situation only to be saved by the “hand of God” at the last second. However, the reverse situation can occur as well.
Depending on past choices and the framework of our destiny, we may encounter circumstances where it appears as though something good is about to happen only for the rug to be pulled out from under us.
This is a very common phenomenon, especially for people who continuously trend toward a higher vibration.
Spiritual shit tests, as I like to call them, are very real. They occur most often when we are about to shift into an overall higher vibration and in order to do so, the remnants of certain attachments and negative energy need to be “equated” or balanced out.
This process typically manifests as some BS happening right before a really good or highly anticipated thing. The eve before a special event all hell breaks loose. Or the extremely common chaos that precedes a fun vacation. You know the drill.
Depending on our current mindset and level of vibration, these events serve very important purposes. First of all, they are fate in motion. Though it may not seem like it, these “negative” events are actually the result of our positive choices.
This is one example of why spiritual individuals don’t get too caught up in things that normies often consider to be “negative.” Events are just events, bad things aren’t meant to be dwelled upon, because most of the time they are technically not even “bad” anyway. They are just the manifestations of certain energies getting processed or balanced. That’s it.
These events can appear negative, however they must happen in order for us to reach another level of spiritual development. Think of it like this:
The condition of our life is determined by our vibration. In order to have a better life, our vibration needs to rise to a higher frequency. However, at a certain point, it is impossible for our lifescape to maintain a certain frequency if there are still pockets of negative energy that are too low, present within our energy field.
It is at these crucial moments when we make the decision to rise or fall. If we choose to rise, then that negative energy must be processed out of our being. It will in some way manifest in the physical, and we will be prompted to deal with it.
If we get caught up in the manifestation, we will create more negative energy of the same vibration, and thus continue the cycle. However if we meet this manifestation with positivity and allow the event to unfold without an emotional reaction, the energy will be processed and we will evolve.
From a physical or religious standpoint, such events look like “the gods toying with us.” In some extreme cases, it can appear as though a good thing will become sabotaged right before it is allowed to manifest in our reality. Whether or not it actually does become sabotaged is entirely up to the choice we make. It’s a spiritual test to see if you are ready to live beyond a certain frequency.
While such events appear to the unspiritual eye like some capricious god making sport of our lives, this is actually an example of how we constantly go through a push and pull process with the universe that molds us into something better than what we are currently.
There can be no evolution without such tests. Keep this in mind when you encounter a situation where you feel like “God” is testing you, in a negative way. This is not how it works.
We are never singled out, and such tests are never punishment or arbitrary. Energy always finds its home and everything we do comes back in some form. This divine harmony is simply how the universe is built.3
Another variation of this negative divine timing is when something that may appear physically good really does get yoinked out from under us, despite no sign of a spiritual shit test. In these instances, the “good thing” was actually not good, and anyone who experiences this should hold the line and maintain a positive frame. It’s a test of another kind.
Just because something appears good, or if there is something we have been looking forward to, it doesn’t mean that it was actually good. “Good” in this sense is defined by the energy signature as well as how closely it aligns with our destiny.
There are some instances where a really good thing (in the physical) would actually take us far off course of our destiny, and therefore since the energies are too far apart, the thing cannot be manifested for us.
Divine timing of this sort is simply an example of how the frequency and nature of our soul sphere will always override anything in our immediate locality. It can be difficult for our conscious minds to understand why we would be denied something good even if we are positive and faithful, however in such circumstances it is for the greater good of our destiny. Always maintain a positive frame in the face of such events, because the creation of negative energy as a reaction to alignment with our destiny creates extreme life disharmony that can echo across many lifetimes.
The denial of destiny is something many people struggle with. It’s important to realize that as willful as we can be as co-creators of our reality, that there is such a thing as divine timing and that there is a great wisdom in the totality of God that we can barely comprehend on any meaningful level.
If you let a great sadness or anger overtake you over not “getting what you want,” this will inevitably lower your vibration and the result will be poorer life experience for the time being, until you process this event. Such a thing can take years.
One of my spiritual mentors once told me that life is not about getting what you want, it’s about living what you are. Make peace with this and you will understand divine timing.
The Hermetic Principles capture the essence of these laws. A great deal behind the “why” of any given event can be explained by observing these principles, as they describe the way our minds interact with energy, and how this energy behaves on a macro level.
It is for this reason that the self-aware are extremely meticulous with who they allow into their lives. They also become adept at making acquaintances, professional relationships, and master basic public etiquette without crossing the line into true friendship. The circle stays small, and for good reason.
Stay far away from the people who look at “God” testing them as some part of their identity. Someone who is constantly being tested with a seemingly neverending series of life quandaries is stuck in a loop and they aren’t getting the picture. These tests are usually few and far between for the spiritually aware. A large number of tests in quick succession or over the span of many years is an indication of spiritual stagnation and possibly a toxic mindset that is unable to see how their choices affect their future.
